Manchester United is eyeing Xavi Simons as a key summer target, but RB Leipzig demands at least €80 million for the Dutch midfielder, making negotiations difficult.
Manchester United is preparing a move for Xavi Simons this summer, as the club looks to rebuild its squad after a disappointing season.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport, the Red Devils have a strong interest in the RB Leipzig midfielder, but the Bundesliga club is unwilling to let him go for less than €80 million.
Simons, 21, has been on United’s radar as they search for creative reinforcements. However, his high price tag could prove to be a stumbling block in negotiations. Leipzig acquired Simons for around €50 million plus €25 million in add-ons, and they are looking to make a profitable return on their investment.
After developing in Barcelona’s youth academy, Simons moved to PSG, where he struggled for playing time. Loan spells at PSV Eindhoven (2022-23) and RB Leipzig (2023-24) helped him refine his game, with his 22 goals and 11 assists in the Eredivisie drawing widespread attention.
Since then, he has maintained strong numbers, recording 10 goals and 13 assists last season, and 8 goals with 6 assists so far this term.
While Erik ten Hag has been instrumental in United’s recent Dutch-heavy transfer strategy, it remains to be seen whether incoming manager Rúben Amorim will continue that trend.
Given the underwhelming performances of many Dutch signings at Old Trafford, United’s potential move for Simons carries some risk.
