Marc-André ter Stegen insists he’s staying at Barcelona despite reports of Joan Garcia’s €25 million arrival, saying no one at the club has mentioned any plans to replace him.
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has dismissed rumours suggesting he could leave the club following the expected arrival of Joan Garcia from Espanyol.
As reported across the Spanish media, Barcelona are close to finalising a deal worth €25 million to bring the 23-year-old Espanyol shot-stopper to Camp Nou. The five-year contract would mark a significant investment, sparking speculation about Ter Stegen’s future.
However, the German international, currently on duty with his national team for the Nations League finals, was quick to address the growing uncertainty.
"Nobody has spoken to me about it. I know I will be at Barcelona next season," said Ter Stegen when asked about the situation during Germany's training camp.
Ter Stegen, who is under contract with Barça until 2028, downplayed any potential rivalry, embracing the idea of internal competition.
"Barcelona has always had great goalkeepers and there is competition for every position. I am really looking forward to the new season because we have a great team that is young, dynamic and hungry for success," he added.
The 32-year-old remains a key figure in Hansi Flick’s plans moving forward, and despite Joan Garcia’s imminent signing, no official indication has been given that the Catalan giants are preparing for a major shake-up in goal.
Garcia's arrival is viewed more as an investment for the future and as a reliable backup option, rather than an immediate replacement for the veteran keeper who has been a consistent performer for the club since 2014.
