Marc Cucurella says his family's well-being played a decisive role in his move to Real Madrid, revealing that access to care for his son with autism was a key factor.

Marc Cucurella has revealed that family considerations were just as important as football when he decided to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid during the 2026 World Cup.
The Spain international completed his move to the Spanish giants while representing his country at the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, bringing an end to his spell in the Premier League.
Cucurella, who has also played for Espanyol, Barcelona and Getafe, admitted he had other options on the table. However, he said the decision quickly became clear because of his family's needs.
The 28-year-old explained that his son has autism and that the availability of specialist care was one of the most important factors when choosing his next club.
"You all know that I have a son with autism. It hasn't changed my life, but it has changed the way I see the world. My family comes first."
"The first thing I look at when another club is interested is the environment. Is it suitable for my son and his needs? Do they have good programmes and support?"
Cucurella made it clear that football success would never come before his family's wellbeing.
"We would never choose a place where he wouldn't receive the best possible care. For me, that's more important than football, and I know there won't be any problems with that in Madrid."
His comments have been widely praised, highlighting the personal challenges professional footballers often face away from the pitch.
While beginning a new chapter at Real Madrid, Cucurella remains focused on Spain's World Cup campaign. The European champions are preparing for their quarter-final against Uruguay as they continue their pursuit of another major international trophy.
