Struggling Lecce appoints experienced manager Marco Giampaolo, hoping his vast Serie A knowledge can lift the team out of the relegation zone.
Italian top-flight club Lecce has announced the appointment of Marco Giampaolo as their new head coach. At 57, Giampaolo takes on his tenth Serie A team, a rare milestone achieved by only two other managers before him. His career has spanned clubs including Cagliari, Siena, Catania, Cesena, Brescia, Empoli, Sampdoria, AC Milan, Torino, and now Lecce.
Only Carlo Mazzone and Alberto Malesani have managed more Serie A clubs, each with a record of eleven.
Giampaolo faces a challenging task with Lecce, who currently sit 18th in Serie A with the league’s lowest-scoring offense. His primary mission will be to secure the team’s place in Italy’s top division by season’s end.
In the coming weeks, Lecce faces a tough schedule, with an away match against Venezia, followed by encounters with Juventus and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
