Teddy Sheringham doubts Marcus Rashford deserved his Barcelona switch, despite the forward delivering strong numbers in Spain.
Teddy Sheringham has questioned Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona, calling it surprising despite the forward’s solid performances.
The former Manchester United striker believes Rashford did not fully earn such a transfer, even though the Englishman has made an impact in Spain.
"He went to Barcelona and got an incredible move. I don’t think he deserved it," Sheringham said.
At the same time, he acknowledged the situation could become permanent.
"It seems like Barcelona wants to sign him. If that’s the case, it will probably happen," he added.
According to Sheringham, that outcome would likely close the door on Rashford’s return to Old Trafford.
"That would show he doesn’t want to go back to United. He will get what he wants," he said.
Despite the criticism, Rashford has delivered strong numbers. He has made 43 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists, exceeding many expectations.
Sheringham also pointed to moments that showed his quality.
"Against Newcastle, he was exceptional. He scored a great goal and influenced the game," he said.
Barcelona now face a key decision. They hold an option to sign Rashford permanently for around €30 million, but have not yet confirmed their plans.
Rashford remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028, leaving the final decision in the hands of the Spanish club.
The situation reflects a wider debate, performance versus perception, as Rashford continues to shape his future.
