Barcelona has decided not to activate its €30 million purchase option for Marcus Rashford, sending the England international back to Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford will not remain at Barcelona next season after the Catalan giants decided against activating the purchase option included in his loan agreement from Manchester United.
The decision means the England international will return to Old Trafford, where his future is once again expected to become one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona says no to permanent move
Barcelona had the option to sign Rashford permanently for €30 million, but club officials ultimately decided the deal did not represent sufficient value.
The deadline for activating the clause expires next week, and the Catalans have already informed Manchester United that they will not proceed with the transfer.
While Rashford impressed during parts of his stay in Spain, the club's sporting department had growing doubts about committing significant resources to a permanent deal.
Anthony Gordon changed everything
Barcelona's transfer strategy shifted dramatically following the arrival of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
The Catalans reportedly invested around €70 million to secure the winger, placing considerable pressure on their budget and limiting their ability to pursue additional major signings.
For a short period, Barcelona still considered keeping Rashford, but only if circumstances changed during negotiations surrounding Gordon's transfer.
That scenario never materialized, and the club eventually decided to move on.
Salary and age also played a role
Sources in Spain suggest Barcelona's concerns extended beyond the transfer fee.
Rashford's salary package remained a significant obstacle, while the club also considered his age profile as it continues to focus on younger long-term investments.
At 29, Rashford would have required a major financial commitment at a time when Barcelona continues to carefully manage its spending.
Solid numbers but lingering doubts
From a football perspective, Rashford's loan spell produced encouraging moments.
He delivered strong performances for long stretches of the season and contributed respectable numbers in goals and assists.
However, a noticeable dip in form lasting several months raised concerns inside the club.
Although he recovered towards the end of the campaign, Barcelona's decision-makers were no longer fully convinced that a permanent transfer was the right move.
Return to Old Trafford
Rashford will now return to Manchester United, where he could soon reunite with new signing Benjamin Šeško as preparations begin for the new season.
Whether the England forward remains part of United's plans or becomes available for another transfer remains unclear.
