Maribor's acquisition of Gyorgy Komaromi from Puskas Akademia is one of the biggest transfers in both clubs' histories, marking a major investment for the Slovenian giants.
Today, Puskas Akademia confirmed that the transfer of Gyorgy Komaromi to Maribor is the second-highest transfer in the history of the Hungarian club.
The Hungarian club shared a highlight reel of Komaromi's performances in a Puskas Akademia jersey, where he shone in the Europa Conference League qualifiers. Despite their hard-fought efforts, Puskas Akademia was eliminated in a dramatic penalty shootout by Fiorentina.
Komaromi was a key player for a team that has consistently been among Hungary's best in recent years. Financially speaking, however, Puskas Akademia typically sells its top talents to clubs of higher stature than Maribor. For context, in 2022, the club spent €600,000 to acquire Lamin Colley from Koper, marking the seventh-largest transfer in Puskas Akademia's history. That fee alone would have made Colley the most expensive player in Maribor's history.
This means that Maribor had to dig deep to bring in the 22-year-old Hungarian talent, who is seen as having the potential to break into the Hungarian national team. It’s likely one of Maribor's biggest investments to date.
While the exact transfer fee is unknown, it's suggested that Komaromi may very well be the most expensive signing in Maribor's history.
According to Puskas Akademia, the club received its second-largest transfer fee since 2017, after the €2 million transfer of Roland Sallai to APOEL. The previous second-largest transfer was Attila Fiola, who was sold for €650,000. If Komaromi's transfer matches or surpasses this amount, he would become Maribor's record signing, surpassing the €450,000 transfer fee paid for Rudi Požeg Vancaš from Celje.
