Greek media report that Hajduk captain Marko Livaja could move to Panathinaikos before the end of the week as the Athens club look to strengthen their attack.

Marko Livaja has found himself at the centre of growing transfer speculation, with Greek media reporting that the Hajduk Split captain could move to Panathinaikos before the end of the week.

According to outlets closely following Panathinaikos, Livaja has been offered to the Athens giants, who are said to have shown concrete interest in the experienced forward. The timing is notable, as Panathinaikos are also finalising another major deal — the arrival of young Croatian midfielder Adriano Jagušić from Slaven Belupo in a transfer worth €5.2 million plus bonuses and a sell-on percentage.

A profile Panathinaikos want

Panathinaikos are in the market for an attacker capable of operating both as a central striker and in a deeper, linking role. They have previously monitored Toni Fruk, and Livaja’s experience and playing style are seen as fitting that profile.

Greek sources add that Hajduk are open to listening to offers, whether for a permanent transfer or a loan, which has further fuelled the rumours.

Greece holds special significance

Greece is a familiar and successful chapter in Livaja’s career. He made his biggest impact abroad with AEK Athens, where he played between 2017 and 2021. During that spell, he made 147 appearances, scored 42 goals and provided 29 assists, while also winning the Greek league title in 2018.

Those achievements are one of the reasons Greek media believe a return to Athens would be a logical step for the 31-year-old forward.

Changing role at Hajduk

Since returning to Split in February 2021, Livaja has become a modern icon at Hajduk. He has recorded 97 goals and 46 assists in 187 matches, captained the side to Croatian Cup triumphs in 2022 and 2023, and twice finished as the league’s top scorer.

However, his status has shifted this season. Under head coach Gonzalo García, Livaja has increasingly started matches on the bench rather than as a guaranteed starter — a development that has only intensified speculation about a possible departure.

Whether this marks the final chapter of Livaja’s Hajduk story remains to be seen, but interest from Athens is now firmly on the table.
