BBC reports Arsenal will trigger the €60m clause to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Spanish midfielder is seen as the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets.
Arsenal is ready to make a major midfield signing as the BBC confirms an agreement has been reached with Real Sociedad for 26-year-old Spanish international Martin Zubimendi.
The Gunners will reportedly activate Zubimendi’s €60 million release clause, and negotiations are already underway to schedule the player's medical in London.
Coach Mikel Arteta has made the signing of a top-class defensive midfielder a key priority this summer, and Zubimendi fits the profile perfectly. In Spain, he has long been compared to Sergio Busquets, the legendary Barcelona midfielder known for his composure, vision, and positional intelligence.
Zubimendi has been one of the most consistent performers in La Liga over the past few seasons. Under Imanol Alguacil, he played a vital role in Sociedad's strong domestic and European campaigns. His arrival at the Emirates is expected to provide Arsenal with greater control and balance in midfield.
Arsenal narrowly missed out on silverware this season, finishing second in the Premier League. Determined to go a step further next year, the club plans to strengthen two key positions—the defensive midfield role now filled by Zubimendi, and the central striker position.
