In recent days, rumors have surfaced in Portugal suggesting that Benfica was close to reaching an agreement with the famous Italian coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Reports in Portugal indicated that Benfica was nearing a deal with former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, whose name has been relatively absent from the media since leaving the Turin club.
Benfica president Rui Costa was rumored to have offered Allegri the chance to lead the team as part of an ambitious sports project. However, these rumors were quickly dismissed when Allegri’s agent, Giovanni Branchini, stepped in to clarify that there is no possibility of Allegri taking the helm at Benfica.
"These are false reports. It’s best to forget about this story," Branchini told Portuguese newspaper Record.
Following the departure of German coach Roger Schmidt, Benfica is in search of a new coach, with former Benfica manager Bruno Lage currently the leading candidate for the position.
