Matjaž Kek reflects on Slovenia's performance: "What we did will go down in history"

Slovenian coach Matjaž Kek will need to sleep on and analyze today's thriller, but he is extremely proud of the image Slovenia presented despite losing the win in the last second.

"I think the point of the match is that Slovenia proved we deserve to be at the European Championship. Sometimes football can be cruel. I am convinced that this team will get it back one day. We played bravely and fairly. This scene will go down in history. I feel both disappointment and pride. We knew how strong and dangerous the Serbs are on set-pieces. We lacked concentration and strength in the last minutes. Thank you for the incredible fight, heart, and what they showed today."

On the huddle at the end of the match:
"I wouldn't reveal details. Today we can all be disappointed, proud, and tomorrow we think about England. They are favorites, but so were the Danes and Serbs. Heads up!"

On the end of the match:
"The Serbs bypassed the game, and we held them well. They had opportunities. In aerial duels, sometimes you miss a bit, and in the end, it's fatal. Maybe we left too many balls at the edge of the penalty area. There were some duels that could have been called in our favor. The Serbs didn't know where they were for 35 minutes. Our youth is a great prospect for Slovenian football."

On the atmosphere:
"Some things we should have played better, there's still room for improvement. I said we would try to keep the rhythm, and we did. In this match, Slovenia was not subordinate at any moment. From the first second of our arrival at the stadium, we showed who we are. I don't even need to talk about the atmosphere. What a privilege this is, it will go down in the annals of Slovenian sport."

On Žan Karničnik:
"The entire back line played at a high level. Just look at who they were up against. It's a shame that Benjamin Šeško had to be substituted due to cramps. Our plan fell apart a bit. We lost a player for aerial duels. Maybe the substitutions seemed strange to some. He would have been useful as he held our aerial game. Karničnik? I'll just say that he is a product of the first Slovenian league!"
