Excellent German defender Mats Hummels appears set to continue his career in Italy’s Serie A.
After leaving Dortmund, Mats Hummels spent a long time searching for a new club, despite strong interest from across Europe. Offers poured in, including some intriguing suitors like current German champions Bayer Leverkusen.
In the final days of the transfer window, Hummels was on the verge of joining Spanish side Real Sociedad, but at the last moment, he changed his mind. According to the latest reports, he has now reached a preliminary agreement with AS Roma in Italy.
Roma has offered Hummels a one-year contract, and Italian media claim that the key role in securing the deal was played by coach Daniele De Rossi. De Rossi reportedly called the 35-year-old German personally to explain his project and the role Hummels would play in it.
Hummels is expected to undergo a medical examination today, followed by the signing of the contract.
Spanish defender Mario Hermoso, who was also a free agent, joined Roma just days ago.
