Kylian Mbappe apologised to his Real Madrid teammates and Antonio Blanco after receiving his first red card in Spain during the 1-0 win over Alaves in La Liga.
Kylian Mbappe was deeply affected by his sending-off against Alaves and immediately apologised to his Real Madrid teammates in the dressing room after the match at Mendizorroza, according to EFE.
Mbappe saw red in the 38th minute for a reckless challenge on Antonio Blanco. It was the Frenchman’s first red card in Spanish football, and it came just minutes after Eduardo Camavinga had given Madrid the lead.
Sources inside the Madrid camp say Mbappe was visibly shaken after the match. He addressed the entire dressing room, apologising to his teammates and the coaching staff for losing control.
Mbappe’s frustration reportedly boiled over after receiving two heavy challenges in quick succession. His response—a dangerous tackle—earned him a straight red from referee Soto Grado.
After apologising internally, Mbappe also sought out Blanco post-match to express his regret personally. The midfielder accepted the apology, and fortunately, he escaped injury from the challenge.
According to the match official’s report, Mbappe is unlikely to face a ban longer than three matches, which means he could still be available for the highly anticipated Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
Despite the win, Madrid will be without their star striker in the next La Liga round against Athletic Bilbao, where they’ll hope to maintain their lead in the title race.
