A Paris labour court has ruled in favour of Kylian Mbappé, ordering PSG to pay €61 million in unpaid wages and bonuses after rejecting the club’s defence.

A Paris labour court has ruled in favour of Kylian Mbappé, ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay the forward €61 million in unpaid wages and bonuses, bringing a high-profile legal dispute to a decisive first conclusion.

The court dismissed PSG’s argument that Mbappé had reached a verbal agreement with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to forgo the money in exchange for seeing out the season before leaving. Judges found no legal basis for the claim and upheld the player’s demand.

Competing claims rejected

The scale of the dispute had underlined how far apart the two sides were. PSG had sought €440 million in counterclaims, while Mbappé’s legal team had initially demanded €263 million. The ruling cut through those figures, awarding a significantly lower — but still substantial — sum to the player.

PSG retain the option to appeal the decision and are expected to consider that route. Even so, the verdict represents an uncomfortable moment for Al-Khelaifi, who will now have to explain the financial implications to the club’s owners in Qatar.

Context around Mbappé’s move

According to Forbes, Mbappé remains among the five highest-paid footballers in the world, with an estimated net worth already exceeding €100 million. The court ruling adds another major windfall.

Mbappé left PSG as a free agent after declining to extend his contract and joined Real Madrid last year without a transfer fee, ending a long and often tense standoff with the French champions.

While the legal process may not be fully over, the Paris ruling marks a significant victory for the 26-year-old and a costly setback for PSG.
