Mehdi Taremi will miss the Club World Cup after being unable to leave Iran due to martial law and canceled flights. The Inter striker remains stuck in Tehran.
Mehdi Taremi will not join Inter Milan at the Club World Cup in the United States after being stranded in Tehran, where martial law has disrupted all international flights.
The Iranian striker, who returned home for national team duty and scored against North Korea, was expected to rejoin his club teammates ahead of Inter’s opening match. However, the tense situation in the region—sparked by escalating airstrikes between Iran and Israel—has grounded flights indefinitely.
According to ESPN, Taremi will miss Inter’s first match in the tournament. Iranian sources suggest he will be absent for the entire competition. Taremi featured in 43 games for Inter during the 2024/25 season.
The United States-based tournament is already facing heavy criticism. One Boca Juniors player was denied a visa, and several international fans have also been refused entry. A heartbroken Benfica supporter from Lisbon, who spent over €1,000 on travel and tickets, publicly shared his frustration after receiving no explanation for his visa denial.
The tournament kicked off last night with a goalless draw between Inter Miami and Al Ahly.
