Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo celebrated son Thiago’s 13th birthday with an FC Barcelona-themed party, showing the family’s emotional bond with the club remains strong despite life in Miami.

Lionel Messi may now be the face of Inter Miami, but FC Barcelona remains deeply rooted in his family’s story. Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo celebrated their son Thiago’s 13th birthday with a vibrant Barcelona-themed party, complete with club colours, symbolism and emotional nods to the Camp Nou.

The celebration, shared on social media by Antonela, featured Blaugrana decorations, a large backdrop with the club’s famous motto “Mes que un club”, and a cake shaped like the Camp Nou stadium. Thiago, wearing Barça’s latest third kit with “Thiago 13” on the back, posed alongside his smiling parents as Antonela wrote: “How wonderful it is to celebrate you, Thiagui. We love you so much.”

For many fans, the images were more than birthday photos — they were a reminder that Messi’s bond with Barcelona never truly ended. Even from Miami, the family continues to honour the club that shaped both Messi’s football identity and their private life.

Messi arrived in Barcelona at the age of 13, the same age Thiago is today. The Catalan club funded his medical treatment, developed him through La Masia, and saw him grow into the greatest player in the club’s history. His 672 goals and 778 appearances remain untouched records.

During those years, Thiago was born and raised in Barcelona, surrounded by the city, culture and the Barça identity. Before the family’s move to Paris and later Miami, he spent time in Barça’s youth academy. He now plays for Inter Miami’s U-13 team, where he has shown promise as a creative forward.

Despite living abroad, Thiago has continued to express admiration for current Barça star Lamine Yamal and has spoken of his dream to play with him one day — a small but telling sign of where his heart still lies.

Messi has repeatedly emphasized that he does not pressure his sons to follow in his footsteps. But this birthday celebration made one thing clear: Barcelona remains a part of who they are — not just in football, but in family identity.

Messi has extended his Inter Miami contract until 2028, meaning his playing future lies in the United States. Yet the discussion of a proper farewell tribute at Camp Nou — a moment both Messi and the club have expressed interest in — still lingers as a shared dream.

For now, the Messi family continues life in Miami. But the Blaugrana colours that filled Thiago’s birthday party spoke louder than words — Barcelona will always be home.
