Lionel Messi scored twice for Inter Miami against Orlando City, but David Brekalo and his teammates secured a 4 2 win despite the Argentine’s brilliance.
Lionel Messi continues to dominate the MLS, even when the result does not go his way.
The Argentine star scored twice for Inter Miami in a 4 2 defeat against Orlando City, where Slovenian defender David Brekalo faced one of the toughest assignments in football.
Orlando City built a 2 0 lead, but containing Messi for 90 minutes remains close to impossible. The former Barcelona captain responded with two moments of pure class.
He pulled one goal back from open play, drifting between defenders before finishing with precision. Later, he scored from a free kick, placing the ball beyond the goalkeeper with his trademark accuracy.
Despite his brace, Inter Miami could not complete the comeback. Orlando managed the final phase better and secured a 4 2 victory.
For Brekalo, the night offered both frustration and experience. Few defenders escape a match against Messi without being tested. Even now, in a different league and at a later stage of his career, the Argentine still decides games whenever he finds space.
