Prince William joined the never-ending football debate over who the greatest player of all time was, giving his verdict on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo while also sharing a hilarious personal mishap.
The Prince of Wales was asked to choose between the two footballing icons during a Q&A with Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings. Despite acknowledging Ronaldo's famous goal celebration as the most recognizable, he ultimately sided with Messi in the GOAT debate.
"Gotta go, Messi, just," the Prince admitted when pressed on his choice.
Before picking his favorite player, William was asked if he had ever attempted Ronaldo’s iconic 'Siu' celebration. His response had the room laughing:
"Well, obviously! And then I do a hammy," he joked, admitting that his attempt resulted in a hamstring injury.
Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami, is set to return to action in the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Cavalier this week, while Ronaldo will lead Al-Nassr against Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
With football debates continuing to rage on, it seems even royalty isn't immune to the Messi vs. Ronaldo discussion—or to the risks of an overly enthusiastic goal celebration.
