Lionel Messi remains doubtful for Inter Miami’s clash with Philadelphia Union after training alone and receiving leg treatment during an open session.
Lionel Messi is once again under the fitness spotlight after the Inter Miami superstar was seen receiving treatment on his leg following a solo training session ahead of the club’s return to MLS action.
Messi, 37, was absent from the Argentina squad during the recent international break, opting to remain in Florida to focus on recovery and fitness. His absence from national duty came as Argentina continued their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign without him.
Although the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has been seen relaxing with his family during the break, his individual training programme and visible leg treatment during an open session earlier this week have raised fresh concerns about his availability.
Messi has already missed several matches since the start of the 2025 MLS season, including key games in both the league and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. With Inter Miami set to host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at Chase Stadium, it remains unclear whether Messi will be fit in time to feature.
The Herons have not played since March 16 due to the international window, giving head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino more time to monitor the situation. However, with Messi not yet back in full group training, his participation this weekend remains in doubt.
Fans will be hoping the Argentine icon can shake off the muscle issue in time, especially with a packed fixture list ahead as Inter Miami continue their pursuit of silverware on both domestic and continental fronts.
