Miron Muslić leads Schalke back to the Bundesliga and is close to the 2. Bundesliga title after taking over a struggling team and delivering immediate success.
Schalke is back in the Bundesliga after three difficult years, and the man behind the turnaround is Miron Muslić.
The coach, born in Bihać and holding an Austrian passport, took over a team that finished 14th in the 2. Bundesliga last season and immediately changed its direction.
A complete transformation
In his first full campaign, Muslić guided Schalke back to the top flight at the first attempt. The team not only improved, but it also dominated.
With two rounds left, Schalke sits at the top of the table with a nine-point lead, although the closest rival has played one match fewer.
Promotion already secured, Schalke is now close to winning the 2. Bundesliga title.
Reward for success
The club has already extended Muslić’s contract until summer 2028, recognizing the impact he has made in a short period.
His average of 2.06 points per game is the best of his coaching career so far.
Career path across Europe
Muslić started his coaching journey at FAC Vienna and SV Ried, before gaining attention in Belgium with Cercle Brugge.
He then moved to Plymouth in England. He arrived mid-season and stabilized the team, but could not prevent relegation from the Championship.
After that experience, he joined Schalke and quickly built a winning structure.
Final steps toward silverware
Schalke will face Nürnberg away in the next round, before hosting Braunschweig in the final match of the 2025/26 season.
Muslić is now on the verge of winning the first trophy of his coaching career, completing a season that has reshaped Schalke’s future.
