Luka Modrić noticed a lone Real Madrid fan sitting among Atletico supporters after their Champions League win, leading to a hilarious reaction from the squad during post-match celebrations.
Real Madrid secured a dramatic Champions League quarter-final spot after eliminating Atletico Madrid on penalties (4-2), but the most unforgettable moment came after the final whistle when Luka Modrić spotted a lone Madrid supporter among the Atletico fans.
As Real players celebrated their victory, Modrić pointed to the stands, where a single Real Madrid fan stood among a sea of Atletico supporters. The Croatian legend’s reaction sparked an amusing response from his teammates, who turned their attention to the brave supporter and greeted him with cheers and waves.
Despite not being at his best in the match, Modrić’s influence remains strong in Real’s dressing room. He played just over an hour before being replaced by Eduardo Camavinga, as Los Blancos struggled to break down Atletico’s defensive structure.
Atletico had taken the lead within the first minute through Conor Gallagher, forcing Real Madrid to battle until penalties decided the winner. After Julian Alvarez’s penalty was ruled out due to a double touch, Real Madrid capitalized, with Antonio Rüdiger scoring the decisive spot-kick.
Even Atletico coach Diego Simeone acknowledged his team’s fate, stating: "They always beat us. At least we made them suffer well." Regarding Alvarez’s penalty controversy, he added: "VAR saw everything. He probably touched the ball twice. I trust the decision."
With their victory, Real Madrid now face Arsenal in the quarter-finals, with the winner advancing to meet either PSG or Aston Villa. As they chase a record-extending 16th European title, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan remain on the other side of the draw.
