Luka Modrić is reportedly in his final months at Real Madrid, as AS claims the club will not renew his contract regardless of this season’s outcome.

Luka Modrić has entered the final stretch of his legendary journey at Real Madrid, according to a report by Spanish daily AS. The club has reportedly decided not to renew his contract this summer — signaling the end of an iconic era at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Last year, Modrić earned a one-year extension after playing a crucial role in Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga double. This time, however, the feeling around the club is different. AS reports that, regardless of trophies or form, the Croatian midfielder will not be offered a new deal.

At 39, Modrić is still contributing at the highest level. He started the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal and has made 48 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and delivering seven assists.

But Real Madrid’s focus appears to be shifting. Younger stars are being prioritized, and the club is preparing for the future — even if it means letting go of one of its greatest midfield maestros.

Modrić is expected to continue playing elsewhere, possibly with an eye on the 2026 World Cup, which could mark the end of his storied career.

The report also mentions that Lucas Vázquez will depart in June as well, with Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly set to arrive from Liverpool. Vázquez’s contract expires this summer, and his exit now seems inevitable.

As Real Madrid gears up for a generational transition, fans will soon have to say goodbye to one of the club’s most respected and admired players.
