Despite his limited game time at Real Madrid, the Turkey coach continues to back the young midfielder.
While Güler has struggled to secure regular playing time under Carlo Ancelotti, he remains an important figure in Montella’s national team plans. The Italian manager explained why the 19-year-old playmaker was included in the Turkey squad despite his limited action at club level.
"We all know his talent and what he can bring to the team," Montella stated. "It is a well-known and widely accepted trend that players with regular club minutes are usually called up to the national team. However, we must have an understanding attitude towards Arda Güler."
Turkey focused on upcoming fixtures
Turkey is set to face Hungary, and while Montella is concentrating on the immediate task, he also emphasized long-term objectives, including World Cup qualification.
"We are all focused on tomorrow’s match. Of course, we also have the World Cup in mind. When we started the Nations League, we had a clear objective: to gain an advantage ahead of the World Cup. Now we take another path, and all our efforts are directed towards this match," Montella concluded.
Despite Güler’s limited role at Real Madrid, he remains a crucial piece in Turkey’s setup, with Montella continuing to place his trust in the young star.
