Jose Mourinho reacts to Real Madrid rumors, denies contact but leaves the door open as the Spanish giants search for a new coach this summer.
Jose Mourinho has broken his silence on rumors linking him with a return to Real Madrid. The Portuguese coach, currently in charge of Benfica, finds himself once again connected with the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid are already searching for a new coach ahead of the summer. Mourinho’s name has quickly appeared among the candidates. His contract in Lisbon includes a buyout clause, which means a move could become realistic if the Spanish club makes an official approach.
Mourinho responded in a calm but familiar tone.
“Nobody from Real Madrid has contacted me, I can guarantee that. I have been in football for a long time, and you have been a journalist for a long time, so we are used to these things. I am not in contact with Real Madrid,” he said.
He did not close the door.
The 63-year-old, who coached Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, avoided ruling out a return, leaving space for further speculation.
He is not the only name on the list.
Jürgen Klopp, Didier Deschamps, and Mauricio Pochettino are also being mentioned as potential candidates.
Real Madrid face a crucial summer.
The club is expected to finish second in La Liga, while Benfica are also on course for second place in Portugal. The pressure is now on the Madrid board to make the right decision and return the team to the fight for major trophies.
One wrong choice could have serious consequences.
