Nancy Dell’Olio, the former partner of Sven-Goran Eriksson, tearfully recounted her last conversation with the late England manager during an emotional appearance on Good Morning Britain.
Nancy Dell’Olio, ex-partner of the late Sven-Goran Eriksson, broke down in tears during a live interview on Good Morning Britain as she remembered her final conversation with the former England manager. Eriksson, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 76 after battling terminal pancreatic cancer, had been a significant figure in Nancy's life during their decade-long relationship.
Speaking on GMB, Nancy, 63, struggled to hold back her emotions as she shared how Eriksson tried to assure her that he was doing well despite his illness. “I just said he was trying to put in the effort to say that he was fine on the phone because most of the time he was not answering or at treatment,” she revealed. “I never thought that he was about to die. I always believed there would be some sort of miracle. I’m sorry.”
The interview had to be cut short as Nancy, overwhelmed with emotion, was unable to continue. GMB presenter Richard Madeley apologized to her as she choked up and ended the conversation. Despite the difficult circumstances, Nancy explained that she remained in contact with Eriksson throughout his illness, noting how he would always sound “relaxed” and “laughing” to ease her worries. “It was hard, but he sounded so relaxed and we were laughing and he would just say ‘I feel okay,’” she said.
Nancy also expressed her deep affection for Eriksson, describing him as a “kind person” and admitting that she still loved him. “He was lovable, when you love someone you will love them forever,” she added. “He was a very kind person. He is more reserved and that is why the opposite always gets attention.”
The Italian beauty shared some unseen photos of their time together after Eriksson's death and spoke candidly about their connection. She recalled how Eriksson once told her that he thought she was “the one” when they first met, though her feelings developed more slowly. Their relationship, which began while Nancy was still married to Giancarlo Massa, was marred by controversy, including Eriksson's high-profile affairs with Ulrika Jonsson and Faria Alam.
In a 2018 interview, Eriksson admitted that the media attention on his love life had taken its toll. His previous marriage to Ann-Christine Pettersson ended in 1994 after he had an affair with Graziella Mancinelli. Earlier this year, Eriksson revealed his pancreatic cancer diagnosis and the grim prognosis that came with it. Despite the challenges, he continued to engage with his life and career, even participating in a documentary for Amazon Prime Video, where he shared his final thoughts with former players, coaches, and supporters.
