Napoli plan to secure Rasmus Højlund on a permanent deal after his productive loan season. Champions League qualification would trigger a €44 million transfer from Manchester United.
Rasmus Højlund appears set to remain at Napoli beyond this season, with the Italian club preparing to activate the option to sign the striker permanently from Manchester United.
The Danish international arrived in Naples on loan and has delivered solid numbers during the campaign. Across all competitions, he has played 35 matches and scored 13 goals, becoming an important figure in Napoli’s attacking line.
His performances helped the club maintain a strong position in Serie A, where Napoli currently sit in third place and remain on track to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
The loan agreement between the clubs contains a clause linked to European qualification. If Napoli finish in the Champions League places, the deal automatically converts into a permanent transfer worth around €44 million.
Inside the club, there is little hesitation about the striker’s future. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna confirmed the club already sees Højlund as part of their long-term plans.
"We are confident about the future. If we qualify for the Champions League we must buy him, but even without that condition we would still want him here," Manna explained.
For Manchester United, the transfer would mark the end of a mixed spell for the striker at Old Trafford. Højlund joined the English club in 2023 after his breakout season with Atalanta.
During his time in England he played 95 matches and scored 26 goals. Yet, he struggled to establish himself as a consistent leading striker in the Premier League.
The move to Italy has offered him a different environment and a chance to rediscover his rhythm in front of goal. Napoli’s attacking system appears to suit his strengths far better.
With the club pushing toward Champions League qualification and planning their squad for next season, Højlund now looks ready to make Naples his long-term football home.
