Antonio Conte wants Napoli to spend €200 million and raise the wage cap to stay on. De Laurentiis faces a tough decision as Juventus circles.
Antonio Conte has reignited Napoli’s title dreams, but his continued stay in Naples will come at a high cost — both financially and strategically. According to Italian outlet Tuttonapoli, the fiery coach has presented Aurelio De Laurentiis with a hefty list of demands that could trigger a major summer overhaul.
Napoli could be crowned Serie A champions for the second time in three years with a win over Cagliari on Friday. Even if they fall short, other results could still tip the title their way. But while fans are celebrating, the club president is now dealing with a far more complex issue: how to keep Conte happy beyond this season.
Reports suggest Conte has asked for 8-9 new signings, an increase in the club’s wage structure from €80 million to at least €100 million, and a €200 million transfer war chest for the summer. These figures would mark a significant shift for a club known for tight financial control under De Laurentiis.
Conte’s requests are bold but not entirely baseless. Victor Osimhen is set to leave, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was sold to Paris Saint-Germain in January for €70 million without being replaced. Napoli could potentially reinvest those funds, but a €200 million spree would require major sales or new investment.
Conte’s history offers few illusions — he left both Juventus and Inter after winning league titles, citing a lack of ambition from club management. Napoli could be next unless De Laurentiis is ready to spend. The situation is further complicated by reports that Juventus are seriously considering bringing Conte back, adding pressure on the Napoli board to act quickly.
Conte’s influence has been undeniable. Even after losing Osimhen in the summer and Kvaratskhelia in the winter, he managed to shape a competitive, motivated squad now on the brink of glory. But if he doesn’t receive guarantees soon, Napoli may face another painful post-title reset.
