David Alaba faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a groin injury, just weeks after making his long-awaited return to action for Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old Austrian defender had only recently recovered from a serious knee ligament injury that kept him out for over a year. Since his return, he had featured in two La Liga matches and two Champions League games as he worked his way back to full fitness.

However, Real Madrid confirmed that Alaba picked up a groin injury during training, ruling him out for an estimated two to three weeks.

"David Alaba has suffered a muscular issue in training and will be unavailable for selection," the club stated.

The Austrian defender was not involved in Real Madrid’s most recent league match against Espanyol, and this latest injury will delay his bid to regain full match sharpness.
