Newcastle United have appointed 38-year-old German coach Matthias Jaissle as Eddie Howe's successor as the club launches a new long-term project.

Newcastle United have officially entered a new chapter after appointing Matthias Jaissle as the club's new head coach.
The 38-year-old German replaces Eddie Howe, who leaves St James' Park after five years in charge, with the Premier League club hoping a fresh approach will help deliver its long-term ambitions.
A major opportunity
Jaissle arrives in England after most recently managing Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
Before that, he built an impressive reputation with RB Salzburg and FC Liefering, while also working as an assistant coach at Brøndby in Denmark.
Newcastle's ownership believes the young German is the right man to lead the club into its next phase.
A completely new strategy
Jaissle is not the only major change at Newcastle this summer.
The club has also dramatically altered its recruitment strategy.
After selling several established stars, including Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali, Newcastle have shifted their focus toward signing younger players with long-term potential.
The move signals a change in philosophy as the club attempts to build a sustainable squad capable of competing at the highest level for years to come.

Jaissle spoke enthusiastically after being confirmed as Newcastle's new manager.
"I am extremely excited about the future. I fully believe in this project, its ambitions and the direction in which the club is going. The vision is clear, the leadership is strong, and the foundations for success are excellent."
He added:
"When Newcastle United call you, you become attentive. The ambitions of the club, the vision for the future and the opportunity that is offered immediately convinced me."
Despite significant investment since the arrival of the club's wealthy owners, Newcastle have yet to establish themselves among the Premier League's elite.
By appointing one of Germany's most highly rated young coaches and adopting a different transfer strategy, the Magpies hope this new project will finally deliver lasting success.
