Newcastle have completed the €60m signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille, beating the competition for one of Belgium's most promising young attackers.

Newcastle United have made another major investment in young talent, officially completing the signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for €60m.
The 21-year-old Belgian international arrives after two seasons in France, having previously developed at Gent. His performances attracted significant attention across Europe, with Atletico Madrid and Liverpool also linked with him this summer.
Fernandez-Pardo has an interesting international background. His father is Spanish, and his mother is Italian, and he represented Spain at youth level before ultimately choosing Belgium for his senior international career.
He already has five senior appearances for Belgium and was part of the squad at this year's World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Newcastle invest €60m in potential
Fernandez-Pardo offers considerable versatility in attack. Last season, he made 16 appearances for Lille as a central forward and another 13 on the left wing. At 188cm tall, he also gives Newcastle a significant physical presence in the final third.
His arrival could pave the way for another major transfer. German striker Nick Woltemade is believed to be heading towards Juventus, with Fernandez-Pardo expected to take his place in Newcastle's attacking rotation.
The Belgian revealed that a conversation with Newcastle coach Matthias Jaissle played an important role in his decision to move to the Premier League.
"I am very happy to be here and very proud to be part of such a big club. I spoke to the coach, and he made it clear to me how much he wanted me to come here. From a career development perspective, the decision made perfect sense for me, so I didn't hesitate at all," Fernandez-Pardo said.
"I am still young, I am still hungry for success, and that is why I am here. I want to progress with the team. I can't wait to get started!"
Newcastle are paying a considerable price for potential, but Fernandez-Pardo arrives as a full Belgian international with World Cup experience and plenty of room to develop. Now he must prove that the club's €60m investment was justified.
