Neymar has been offered to Napoli and Inter ahead of a possible free move in January, but both clubs turned him down as the Brazilian targets a World Cup 2026 return.

Neymar Jr. could be on his way back to Europe, with his representatives approaching Napoli and Inter Milan about a potential free transfer in January. However, both Serie A giants have reportedly rejected the chance to sign the Brazilian superstar, citing fitness concerns and high wage demands.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Fabrizio Romano, Inter declined an approach from Pini Zahavi — Neymar’s agent — in May, while Napoli also passed on the opportunity more recently. The 33-year-old forward has struggled with recurring muscle injuries since leaving Paris Saint-Germain and remains focused on proving his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Despite being one of football’s biggest global icons, Neymar’s injury record and salary expectations have made top clubs wary. Napoli boss Antonio Conte is building a younger, more dynamic squad, while Inter are maintaining financial stability following their Champions League success. Both sides see the Brazilian’s availability as tempting but risky.

Neymar will officially become a free agent on December 31, opening the door to a possible return to the European stage. Zahavi’s strong connections in Italy could reignite negotiations in January if the conditions improve and a non-EU slot opens up.

Meanwhile, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has left the door open for Neymar’s return to the national team but insists that the Santos legend must prove his fitness and consistency at club level before earning a recall. The forward, who once formed one of football’s most feared attacking trios at Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, remains determined to show he still belongs among the elite.

Whether any Serie A club is willing to gamble on a short-term deal remains uncertain, but one thing is clear — Neymar is not ready to fade into retirement just yet.
