Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer Neymar has officially announced his retirement from international football after ending his career with 130 appearances for the Seleção.

Neymar has officially brought the curtain down on one of the greatest international careers in Brazilian football history.
The 34-year-old forward announced that he will no longer represent Brazil after helping Santos to a 4-2 victory over Universidad Central, confirming that his journey with the national team has come to an end.
Speaking after the match, Neymar delivered an emotional farewell to the country he represented for well over a decade.
" My time in the national team is over. I made history, I was very happy, I gave my blood, my life, and I always fought for the yellow jersey, but now I don't want that anymore."
Neymar retires as Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 80 goals in 130 international appearances.
His final appearance came at the 2026 World Cup, where Brazil's campaign ended in the Round of 16 after a 2-1 defeat to Norway. Neymar scored from the penalty spot in what proved to be his last goal for the Seleção, but it was not enough to prevent elimination. The striker left MetLife Stadium in tears following the final whistle.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star also addressed recent reports claiming he had verbally attacked younger Santos teammates Gabriel Buontempo and João Ananias after the club's draw with Chapecoense.
Neymar firmly denied the accusations.
" It's sad, and it makes me angry, but it's not my fault. Stories like this spread quickly. After the match I said that we have to be better and that we cannot throw away points so easily."
The Brazilian explained that, as team captain, he felt it was his responsibility to speak honestly after disappointing performances.
" I said we would get them back next year, if you know what I mean. As captain, I have every right to say that. Lucas Veríssimo and Gabigol said the same."
With his international career now officially over, Neymar closes an extraordinary chapter in Brazilian football history, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most gifted and influential players ever to wear the famous yellow shirt.
