Neymar's father hinted that the Brazilian superstar could become a free agent after 2024-25, with Al-Hilal retaining him despite ongoing injury struggles.
Neymar may soon be at a career crossroads as his father, Neymar Sr., hinted that the 32-year-old could become a free agent after the 2024-25 season. The Brazilian forward’s stint at Al-Hilal has been plagued by injuries, fueling speculation about his future.
Neymar, who joined the Saudi Pro League side in a high-profile move, has endured a difficult debut season. Limited to just five appearances due to persistent injuries, including a ruptured ACL sustained during international duty in October 2023, Neymar’s on-pitch contributions have been minimal.
Despite rumors of an early contract termination, Neymar Sr. clarified on the Roundcast podcast, via AS, why Al-Hilal has not canceled his son’s deal: "All the clubs will be there, and Al-Hilal will be in this championship. They already have one of the biggest stars they could have to compete in this, and a boy with experience in this type of competition. That is why they did not give up on the second year of Neymar’s contract."
Neymar’s father also teased the possibility of a fresh chapter after 2025: "He will be free to decide. We have never been so free to decide where we are going, and having a 32-year-old free on hand is a gift for any businessman."
Reports have linked Neymar with a return to his boyhood club, Santos, which is reportedly preparing a significant offer to bring the star back to Brazil. However, Neymar’s future remains open, with the 2025 Club World Cup expected to be a critical factor in determining his next move.
While Neymar’s journey in Saudi Arabia has been marred by injuries, his star power and experience could make him a prized asset as a free agent in 2025. For now, the football world waits to see where the Brazilian icon will write the next chapter of his career.
