Nicolo Zaniolo, following a tough season at Aston Villa, is set to return to Galatasaray but is likely to be loaned out again.
Nicolo Zaniolo's challenging season at Aston Villa has come to an end, and now he faces a return to Galatasaray. However, it seems his stay in Istanbul will be brief. Reports from Italy and Turkey indicate that Galatasaray is open to sending the troubled midfielder on another loan, with Villarreal showing strong interest.
Aston Villa had an option to buy Zaniolo, but the 24-year-old Italian did not meet expectations, leading to the deal falling through. Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that besides Villarreal, Milan and Fiorentina are also interested in Zaniolo, but the Spanish club appears to be leading the race for the young Tuscan.
Zaniolo, a product of Inter's academy, wouldn't mind returning to Serie A after a disappointing Premier League season. In his contract, there is a buyout clause worth 35 million euros, but the conditions offered by Galatasaray to Aston Villa were as follows:
- 5 million euros for a one-year loan
- 22.5 million euros for an optional buyout
- 15 million euros in bonuses if Aston Villa activates the buyout.
Considering the difficulties he faced last season, reports suggest Galatasaray would accept loaning the Italian to an interested club with a buyout option of 15 million euros.
Where Zaniolo will end up remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: he won't stay at Galatasaray. The Istanbul club is already considering offers for a new loan for the young midfielder. Last season, Zaniolo played 25 matches for Aston Villa in all competitions, scoring just two goals.
Additionally, the 24-year-old Italian will miss the European Championship in Germany due to a serious injury, where the Azzurri will defend their title.
