PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi calls for a new stadium, saying the club needs to build one quickly to stay competitive with Europe’s top teams.
Even the richest clubs have their challenges. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, speaking to a French radio station during the inauguration of the club’s new training center, addressed a long-standing issue: stadium infrastructure. The Parc des Princes, where PSG play their home matches, remains under the ownership of the Paris city authorities, and the club’s attempts to purchase the venue have so far failed.
Al-Khelaifi was clear about the urgent need for progress: "We need to build a new stadium as quickly as possible. I love the Parc des Princes—everyone loves it. If I listen to my heart, we would never leave it. But across Europe, everyone has stadiums with 80,000 or 90,000 seats. We need one too, or we’re dead."
The Parc des Princes, with a capacity of fewer than 50,000 seats, lags behind the larger venues of PSG’s European rivals. Al-Khelaifi emphasized the need to move forward: "We are in France, but also in Europe. The city isn’t cooperating. I’m not here to play politics, but we need a stadium ready in 3-4 years. We have no time to waste, or we’ll fall behind other top clubs in Europe. We need to build it as fast as possible."
The statement reinforces PSG’s ambition to remain competitive on the global stage, where infrastructure is a critical part of modern football’s success.
