Morgan Gibbs-White could leave Nottingham Forest after Tottenham exposed a €60 million release clause, alerting Manchester City and forcing Forest into a difficult position.

Morgan Gibbs-White may be on the move—and Nottingham Forest are not happy about it.
Manchester City have reignited interest in the attacking midfielder, with Pep Guardiola seeking to boost his homegrown quota. But Forest had been holding firm, demanding at least €80 million and refusing to negotiate for less.
Now, those plans have been upended. According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur revealed that Gibbs-White has a €60 million release clause in his contract, effectively weakening Forest’s negotiating power and triggering frustration at the club.
With that clause active, Gibbs-White can now choose to leave if a club meets the amount. Forest had hoped to either keep the 24-year-old for their upcoming European campaign or sell him at a premium—possibly even as high as €100 million.
But those ambitions have now collapsed. The player, who arrived at Forest in 2023 from Wolves for €30 million, holds all the leverage. If City or another club offer the buyout figure, Forest will be powerless to stop the move.
Tottenham themselves seem to have gone quiet on the player after reportedly backing off from a legal dispute with Forest. Still, their revelation has changed the entire landscape of the transfer window.
“Gibbs-White has the option to leave—Forest’s hands are tied unless he chooses to stay,” a source close to the club said.
While Manchester City prepare an official offer, it remains unclear whether Forest’s frustration will be directed only at Spurs—or also at the player if he opts to walk away after just one season.
