Lina Souloukou, former CEO of Olympiacos and AS Roma, has been appointed as Nottingham Forest’s new executive director, marking a new era of global growth for the club.
Nottingham Forest has taken another step toward solidifying its global presence by appointing Lina Souloukou as its new executive director. Souloukou, one of the most influential women in men’s football, will officially begin her role on January 5, 2025.
Souloukou’s appointment is a major move for the historic English club. The Greek executive previously spent four successful years as CEO of Olympiacos, where she earned a reputation as a capable and forward-thinking leader. Her tenure at Olympiacos eventually led to a high-profile role at AS Roma, where she served as the club’s executive director earlier this year.
However, her time in Italy came to an abrupt end after a turbulent period with Roma’s fanbase. Souloukou became a target of fan anger, as supporters blamed her for the controversial departure of beloved coach Daniele De Rossi. Facing threats and mounting pressure, she decided to step down from her role at Roma.
Now, she’s been entrusted with a new challenge at Nottingham Forest, which is owned by Evangelos Marinakis, the same owner who oversaw her success at Olympiacos.
In her first public statement after the announcement, Souloukou expressed her excitement about joining Forest and continuing to work under Marinakis’ ownership:
"I am deeply honored to join the football family of Mr. Marinakis. Continuing the successful work at Nottingham Forest and contributing to the entire group of clubs is a fascinating challenge. I look forward to working together to achieve our shared ambitions."
Souloukou’s appointment further strengthens the club’s leadership team, which already includes notable figures such as former NZS director Miran Pavlin and former Arsenal sporting director Edu.
Under Marinakis’ ownership, Nottingham Forest has been steadily working to enhance its global footprint, both on and off the pitch. The appointment of Souloukou, who brings experience from two of Europe’s biggest leagues, is a clear indication of the club’s ambitions to grow internationally and become a more prominent force in the Premier League.
Her track record in steering major clubs through periods of growth makes her an ideal candidate to lead Forest into its next chapter. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how her leadership impacts the club in the coming months.
