Feyenoord has officially named Robin van Persie as their new manager following the departure of Brian Priske.
The club, currently sitting third in the Eredivisie, is already 11 points behind Ajax and has played one game more than the league leaders.
Van Persie, who previously coached Heerenveen, takes charge in Rotterdam with immediate effect. While his tenure at Heerenveen had mixed results, he gained recognition for an attacking style of play, though his team often struggled defensively.
A return to where it all began
Van Persie, one of the greatest Dutch strikers of his generation, began his professional career at Feyenoord before moving on to star at Arsenal and Manchester United. Now, he returns to lead the team as head coach.
His contract runs until the summer of 2027, and he will officially start his new role on **Monday**. With Feyenoord recently securing a place in the Champions League round of 16, the challenge ahead is significant.
What’s next for Feyenoord?
Feyenoord remains in contention for European success, but their league struggles have led to changes at the top. The club hopes that Van Persie’s return will inject fresh energy into the squad as they look to close the gap on their domestic rivals.
Meanwhile, Heerenveen, currently **ninth in the Eredivisie**, must now move quickly to find a replacement for Van Persie.
