Ruben Neves has committed his future to Al Hilal until 2029, ending speculation about a return to Europe after strong interest from leading clubs.
Ruben Neves has officially closed the door on a return to European football. The Portuguese midfielder has signed a new contract with Al Hilal, extending his stay in Saudi Arabia until the summer of 2029.
The decision ends months of speculation about a possible move back to Europe. Manchester United and Real Madrid both monitored his situation during the season, but no deal moved forward.
Neves left Wolverhampton in 2023 in a transfer worth around 55 million euros. The move raised eyebrows at the time due to his age and status in European football.
Since joining Al Hilal, the 28-year-old has played 115 matches in all competitions. He has already won the Saudi Pro League title once and lifted the domestic cup.
Al Hilal sit at the top of the league standings. They hold a narrow lead over Al Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, and remain ahead of Al Ahli in the title race.
Neves remains a regular member of the Portugal national team. He is expected to feature at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico as Portugal chase their first world title.
