Fenerbahce is reportedly targeting both Jan Oblak and Robert Lewandowski as part of ambitious plans ahead of the club’s presidential elections.
Jan Oblak and Robert Lewandowski playing together sounds unlikely. But according to reports from Turkey, there is one club trying to make exactly that happen.
Fenerbahce are preparing for presidential elections and, as expected, transfer promises have become part of the campaign. Candidates Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi both want to convince supporters with ambitious projects, and some very famous names are now appearing on their lists.
Jan Oblak has already been linked with the Istanbul giants. The Slovenian goalkeeper remains one of the biggest legends in modern Atletico Madrid history, but his future continues generating speculation because of his age, high salary, and the fact that he has only two years remaining on his contract.
Fenerbahce reportedly believes a deal is difficult, but not impossible.
Now another huge name has appeared.
Robert Lewandowski, whose departure from Barcelona has now been confirmed, has also become a target for the Turkish side. Saudi Arabia and MLS clubs have long been considered the favourites for his signature, yet Turkish media claim presidential candidate Hakan Safi already contacted the Polish striker’s representatives to discuss a move.
The financial challenge would be enormous.
Lewandowski turns 37 this year and reportedly wants a two-year contract from his next club, something that immediately increases the cost of any agreement. Combined with salary demands and signing bonuses, Fenerbahce would need to significantly stretch financial limits to make the transfer possible.
Still, Turkish football has repeatedly shown that ambitious deals cannot be dismissed quickly.
For now, both transfers remain complicated.
But if Fenerbahce somehow pulls it off, Oblak and Lewandowski would become teammates.
Just not in Madrid.
