Atalanta sign 17-year-old Honest Ahanor from Genoa in a deal worth up to €20 million, beating out competition for the highly-rated Serie A full-back.
Atalanta have officially completed the signing of 17-year-old defender Honest Ahanor from Genoa, landing one of the most promising youngsters in Italian football.
The Bergamo-based club paid €16 million upfront for Ahanor, with an additional €4 million in potential bonuses, bringing the total package to €20 million. Despite his age, Ahanor already made six first-team appearances in Serie A last season, where he impressed with his physical maturity, pace, and composure, and also contributed one assist.
Ahanor primarily operates as a left-back, and his rapid rise at Genoa has drawn attention from several top-flight clubs. However, Atalanta moved quickly to secure his signature, confirming their intent to invest in young, high-upside talent as part of their long-term project.
His development will now continue under new head coach Ivan Jurić, who recently took over following the departure of Gian Piero Gasperini. The Croatian tactician brings experience from stints at Southampton, Roma, Torino, Hellas Verona, Genoa, and Crotone.
Ahanor becomes Atalanta’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Lazar Samardžić, Marco Brescianini, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Odilon Kossounou, as the club prepares for a new era under Jurić.
