Slovenian playmaker Josip Iličić stays in the PrvaLiga after leaving Maribor, bringing experience and creativity to Koper’s squad for the new season.

It’s now official — Josip Iličić, one of Slovenia’s most gifted players, has signed with Koper, adding star quality and leadership to Slaviša Stojanović’s side.

The 36-year-old maestro, nicknamed ‘Il Professore’ for his vision and technical mastery, left Maribor earlier this year after his contract expired. Despite speculation about retirement or a move abroad, Iličić chose to continue entertaining Slovenian fans on home soil.

He joins a Koper team that reached the Slovenian Cup final last season and is aiming for a stronger domestic campaign. Iličić is expected to bring priceless experience, flair and creativity to a squad also boosted by the arrival of French defender Charles Divialle, a 21-year-old who joined from Metz’s B team.

In the PrvaLiga, Iličić has racked up 122 appearances, scoring 24 goals and adding 21 assists, while the bulk of his career was spent dazzling Serie A audiences in Palermo, Fiorentina and Atalanta colours.

Fans now wait to see how Il Professore will orchestrate Koper’s attack and whether he can inspire another run at silverware.
