Marko Nikolić has been appointed AEK Athens head coach after leaving CSKA Moscow, bringing a strong track record of trophies in Serbia, Hungary and Russia.

Marko Nikolić (45) has been officially named the new head coach of AEK Athens, the Greek club confirmed today.

The Serbian tactician left CSKA Moscow just five days ago, having led the Russian side throughout the 2024/25 season. Nikolić brings extensive experience, having previously coached the Serbia U18 national team, and managed clubs including Rad, Vojvodina, Partizan, Olimpija Ljubljana, Videoton, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Shabab Al Ahli.

He is best known for winning the domestic double with Partizan in the 2016/17 season, capturing the Hungarian title with Videoton in 2017/18 and lifting the Hungarian Cup in 2018/19. In Russia, he won the Russian Cup twice — with Lokomotiv in 2021 and most recently with CSKA in 2025.

AEK Athens, who finished fourth in the Greek Super League this season, have qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. Nikolić will be tasked with strengthening the team’s domestic and European ambitions.
