PSG secured another Ligue 1 title under Luis Enrique, but their planned championship celebrations now face resistance from city rivals Paris FC.
Paris Saint-Germain officially secured another Ligue 1 title after defeating Lens away from home last night.
The latest championship adds another trophy to the growing collection under coach Luis Enrique, who continues building one of the strongest eras in the club’s history.
However, instead of preparing carefree celebrations, PSG are now dealing with an unexpected bureaucratic and political problem inside the French capital.
On Sunday, PSG will face city rivals Paris FC in a local derby at the Jean-Bouin Stadium.
The match itself carries little sporting importance because PSG are already champions while Paris FC currently sit in 11th place in the league standings.
Still, the occasion was expected to become a major title celebration for the newly crowned French champions.
That plan has now hit a serious obstacle.
According to reports in France, Paris FC rejected requests from league officials to allow PSG to organize their championship celebrations inside the stadium after the match.
The home club reportedly wants the evening focused on its own plans.
Paris FC intend to honor several important figures connected to the club and do not want PSG’s title party to completely dominate the event.
PSG then explored another possibility.
The club reportedly considered moving the celebrations to the nearby Parc des Princes, located only a short distance away from the derby venue.
However, French authorities reportedly blocked that scenario because of major security concerns.
Officials fear large-scale movement of supporters between both stadiums could create dangerous situations in the city.
As a result, PSG now find themselves in the unusual position of being French champions without a clear location to properly celebrate the title with supporters.
The latest success marks PSG’s 14th French league title.
The Paris giants have also won 16 domestic cup trophies and previously lifted the Champions League once.
This season could still become even more historic.
PSG are preparing for another Champions League final where they will face Arsenal as Luis Enrique attempts to deliver another European crown to Paris.
