PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe made his emotional return after 700 days out, helping his team secure a 2-0 French Cup win over Le Mans.

Paris Saint Germain secured a routine 2-0 victory over Le Mans in the French Cup round of 16, with goals from Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola sealing their place in the quarterfinals.

However, the biggest talking point of the match was the long-awaited return of Presnel Kimpembe, who had been sidelined for over 700 days due to a serious Achilles injury.

The 29-year-old defender last played an official match on February 26, 2023, before undergoing two consecutive Achilles surgeries. His rehabilitation has been ongoing since late 2023, but an initial attempt to rejoin the squad in November was deemed too risky.

On Wednesday, Kimpembe finally made his return, coming on ten minutes before the final whistle. Overwhelmed with emotion, he described the moment as "something truly special".

"It’s been so long since I felt this way. I’m just so happy to be back helping the team. I feel good. It’s been nearly two years, but I’m a fighter, a soldier... Today, I’m incredibly emotional. After all this time, stepping onto the pitch again is just crazy," said Kimpembe.
