Gianluigi Donnarumma responded to recent critics in emphatic style, making two crucial penalty saves for Paris Saint-Germain against Liverpool, ensuring progression to the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Italian goalkeeper became PSG’s hero by saving two Liverpool penalties after a tense 180-minute battle. His standout performance silenced criticism from French media after an earlier mistake in the first leg.
Donnarumma addressed his critics directly after the match: "After the first leg, some journalists in France criticized me, but they don't know what it means to be a goalkeeper. I'm happy. Let them criticize me."
The PSG goalkeeper compared this experience to his success at Euro 2020, where he famously saved penalties against England at Wembley, securing Italy's European title. Italian media quickly labeled this Champions League victory as "déjà vu."
Donnarumma explained his focused preparation before the decisive penalty shootout: "I spoke with the coach at the hotel. We discussed penalties and strategies. Hopefully, to save a shot."
Previously overshadowed by Liverpool's Alisson, Donnarumma regained the spotlight with his exceptional performance at Anfield, reinforcing his status among Europe's top goalkeepers.
