PSG are targeting Real Madrid academy talent Joan Martínez after signing a Barcelona prospect, but Los Blancos remain protected by a €150 million release clause.
Paris Saint-Germain are continuing their push for emerging talent, with Joan Martínez, one of Real Madrid’s most promising academy defenders, now firmly on their radar.
The 18-year-old centre-back, a standout product of La Fábrica, has yet to make his senior debut but is already attracting attention from across Europe due to his performances at youth level.
PSG shift focus to young talents
According to reports in Spain, sporting director Luis Campos has been tracking Martínez for some time and sees him as part of the club’s long-term project.
The interest follows PSG’s recent move for Barcelona prospect Droja Fernandez, underlining a broader change in strategy at the French champions.
Under Campos and head coach Luis Enrique, PSG have moved away from a transfer policy centred on established stars such as Neymar, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, instead prioritising the recruitment and development of young players.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi previously summed up the approach: “The future of PSG will not be bought, but built.”
Real Madrid in strong position
Despite PSG’s interest, Real Madrid remain firmly in control of the situation. Martínez recently signed a long-term contract running until 2029, which includes a €150 million release clause.
This effectively prevents any deal without direct negotiations with the Spanish club, who view the defender as a key part of their future plans.
PSG are reportedly seeking a full transfer without buy-back clauses, a stance that could further complicate discussions.
Future of Madrid defence
Real Madrid have historically allowed young players to leave while retaining certain rights, but that scenario appears unlikely in Martínez’s case.
The club see him as a long-term investment and a potential cornerstone of their defensive line in the years ahead.
With PSG intensifying their pursuit and Real determined to retain control, Martínez’s future could become one of the more intriguing transfer stories involving Europe’s next generation of stars.
