Real Madrid have received a major boost in their pursuit of Rodri, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly withdrawing from the race to sign the Manchester City midfielder.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has entered the final year of his contract at City and is widely reported to be keen on a move to the Spanish capital. While new Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is said to be a strong admirer of Rodri, the final decision still rests with club president Florentino Pérez, who has yet to give the green light for the transfer.

For now, Rodri's future appears to be down to two options. After celebrating Spain's World Cup triumph and being named the tournament's Best Player by FIFA, he is expected either to remain at Manchester City or complete a move to Real Madrid.

PSG had been linked with the midfielder, but the French champions are no longer expected to pursue a deal. According to reports, head coach Luis Enrique believes his midfield is already strong enough and does not see Rodri as a priority signing.

The Spanish coach is particularly satisfied with the performances of Vitinha and the rest of his midfield options, preferring to strengthen other areas of the squad instead. That decision effectively removes one of Real Madrid's biggest potential rivals in the race for Rodri's signature.

Rodri is no stranger to Madrid. Born in the Spanish capital, he came through the youth ranks at Atlético Madrid before breaking into the first team during the 2018/19 season. Manchester City signed him in 2019 after he had also spent several years developing at Villarreal.

With PSG stepping aside, the pressure is now on Real Madrid. If Pérez decides to move, the path to signing one of the world's best midfielders has become considerably clearer.
