Joao Neves has won the Champions League twice with Paris Saint-Germain and reportedly earns around £150,000 per week, but you would never guess it from his choice of transport.
The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been spotted leaving PSG training behind the wheel of a 2021 Peugeot Partner van worth around £7,000.
A video shared on TikTok shows Neves stopping his modest Peugeot outside the training ground to sign autographs for supporters before driving away. The scene quickly attracted attention because of the enormous contrast with the luxury cars usually associated with elite footballers.
A very different football superstar
Expensive Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Bentleys are common sights at the training grounds of Europe's biggest clubs, but Neves clearly has no problem taking a considerably simpler approach.
His modest choice of car is even more surprising considering his rapid rise at PSG. Neves joined the French giants from Benfica for around £60m two years ago and has since developed into one of Luis Enrique's most important players.
Alongside fellow Portuguese international Vitinha, he has formed one of Europe's strongest midfield partnerships and played a major role in PSG's recent success.
There has been considerable change around them this summer. Ibrahima Mbaye has joined Aston Villa for around £45m, while Bradley Barcola is heading to Liverpool in a transfer that could eventually be worth £123m.
PSG have responded by strengthening their attack with Maghnes Akliouche and Ferran Torres. Neves, meanwhile, remains central to Luis Enrique's plans – and apparently perfectly happy arriving and leaving training in his £7,000 Peugeot van.
