Palmeiras have submitted a €25 million bid for Jhon Arias, receiving a positive response from Wolverhampton as Fluminense consider exercising their priority clause.
Palmeiras have received a positive response from Wolverhampton Wanderers after submitting an offer of €25 million (around R$154.7 million) to sign Colombian midfielder Jhon Arias. The Brazilian club are now waiting for the player’s decision as they seek to secure him as a major reinforcement.
The aggressive bid is seen as Palmeiras’ solution to prevent a possible return of Arias to Fluminense, the team he represented before moving to England.
Priority clause benefits Fluminense
When Arias was sold to Wolverhampton, a clause was included in the deal granting Fluminense priority if another Brazilian club attempted to sign him. In such cases, the Rio de Janeiro club have the right to match the offer made by the interested party — exactly the situation created by Palmeiras’ move.
According to the agreement, Fluminense have three days to match the offer once it is formally submitted. Palmeiras completed that step on Sunday, meaning the deadline for Fluminense to activate their priority expires on Wednesday (4).
From Libertadores hero to Premier League
Arias joined Wolverhampton in July 2025, leaving Fluminense as one of the most important players in the club’s recent history, particularly for his role in their Copa Libertadores triumph. In England, he has registered two goals and one assist in 26 appearances.
Palmeiras see the Colombian as the ideal solution to their need for a high-level creative midfielder. Rafael Veiga, the player who most closely fit that profile in the squad, has been loaned out to América.
